Mutual Housing and Green Building
Sacramento|Yolo Mutual Housing Association is a member of Build it Green,
creator of the GreenPoint Rated system, and the U.S. Green Building Council,
the creator of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED)
Green Building Rating System™.
We developed our first multifamily housing that incorporates solar power within the Sacramento Municipal Utility District's service area in 2002. That property, Victory Townhomes, located at 1075 Dixieanne in north Sacramento, has solar panels on each townhome -- lowering utility costs for residents -- as well as integrated solar roof tile in the large building that houses the manager's office, computer learning lab, and community meeting spaces.
Mutual Housing is developing the first multifamily housing in the City of Davis that will be Build It Green rated and will meet LEED™ certification standards. We build all of our housing to exceed by at least 15% the standards set forth in California's Title 24 Energy Efficiency Standards for Residential Buildings.
Mutual Housing provides free capacity building training in green building for staff and board members and utilizes LEED certified consultants to advise our housing development teams on green construction methods, building components, and design.
We invite you to view the schematics of our upcoming developments, as well as to visit Victory Townhomes or call us for a tour of that property.
Green Operations and Resident Education:
- In 2011 Mutual Housing began a Green Leaders program to educate residents about the various green elements of our construction and rehab projects that benefit their communities. The program also recruits and trains groups of leaders at various communities to plan and execute various types of green education projects. Resident Green Leaders help identify learning topics appropriate for their community, design outreach and training plans, and hold community meetings or events to share green information with their neighbors. Project topics and activities at our Davis communities included worm composting, recycling, utility discount and weatherization awareness, energy tracking/auditing, and reducing overall personal carbon footprints. Resident Green Leaders at our Foothill Plaza community designed a green living guide, available in both English and Russian, for use by property management and all community residents.
