Courtney Poole, Community Organizer

Courtney Poole works with resident members of Mutual Housing at River Garden and Mutual Housing at the Highlands in North Sacramento. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She leads several key initiatives including our college ambassadors training and a food bank program. Ms. Poole also manages the Social Work Intern Program at Mutual Housing California to encourage social work students to discover and engage in the connections between community organizing and direct social work practice. Courtney developed an interest in safe, affordable housing through her work as a case manager at Saint John’s Program for Real Change and as a housing advocate at Sacramento Housing Alliance. Courtney joined the organizing team in June of 2015 after earning a Master of Social Work degree from California State University Sacramento.

Iliana Chevez, Community Organizer

Iliana Chevez works with resident members of Mutual Housing at Spring Lake in Woodland and Twin Pines Mutual Housing Community in Davis. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She leads several key initiatives including financial lending circles, a youth internship/bike sharing program, and green resident education. Ms. Chevez joined us in 2010 as an intern for asset management and community organizing, later becoming a community organizer on staff. She graduated from University of California, Davis in June 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in Community and Regional Development and a minor in Spanish. During her academic career, she was involved with community service organization called Mujeres Ayudando la Raza and with an academic sorority called Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Incorporated. She also traveled to South Africa to learn the role of politics in community building. She speaks both English and Spanish fluently.

Joua Yang, Community Organizer

Joua Yang works with resident members of three communities in Sacramento – Victory Townhomes Mutual Housing Community, Mutual Housing at Dixieanne, and Mutual Housing on the Greenway. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She leads several key initiatives including NeighborWorks Community Leadership Institute team projects, Federal Work Study after-school tutoring, free onsite tax preparation services, and college ambassadors training. Ms. Yang joined the Mutual Housing staff in August 2012, immediately after completing a 10-week summer program as a Mutual Housing NeighborWorks VISTA volunteer at Lemon Hill. In that role she provided direct adult and youth resident support in the computer lab, teaching basic computer skills, Microsoft office skills, basic internet search skills and internet safety. Prior to her time as an NeighborWorks VISTA, she imparted independent living and parental skills to individuals diagnosed with developmental delays. Along with a job at the Fresno Unified School District, Ms. Yang also worked for California State University, Fresno while earning her B.A. there in Psychology, along with a Certificate in Victim Services. She speaks both English and Hmong fluently.

Crystal Huynh-Kim, Community Organizer

Crystal Huynh-Kim works with resident members of Mutual Housing at Sky Park and Mutual Housing at Lemon Hill in South Sacramento. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She leads several key initiatives including youth healthy meals programming, free onsite tax preparation services, and volunteer programs. Crystal graduated from the University of California, Davis with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science-Public Service and a minor in Dramatic Arts. She prior held the position of the first female President of the United Vietnamese Student Associations of Northern California (NorCal UVSA) in 2013-2014 and worked with numerous non-profit organizations in leadership development and communications on the socio/political issues surrounding the community. Crystal has been a Community Organizer at Mutual Housing California since September 2014. She speaks both English and Vietnamese fluently.

Kianna Williamson, Community Organizer

Kianna Williamson works with resident members of three communities in Davis – New Harmony Mutual Housing Community, Owendale Mutual Housing Community, and Tremont Green Mutual Housing Community. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She leads several key initiatives including youth sports leagues, bike sharing programs, and Chromebook lending libraries. She is also supporting the NeighborWorks Community Leadership Institute “mentorship matters” project. Ms. Williamson developed an interest in safe, affordable housing through her work as a property manager within Mutual housing California. Kianna has a degree from University of Pacific in Business Administration.

Marena Weisman, Community Organizer

Marena Weisman works with resident members of Moore Village Mutual Housing Community and Owendale Mutual Housing Community in Davis. She also works with resident members of Glen Ellen Mutual Housing Community in South Sacramento. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She leads several key initiatives including health and nutrition partnerships, International Garden of Many Colors committee, and NeighborWorks Community Leadership Institute “mentorship matters” project. Mrs. Weisman joined us in 2015 after earning a Bachelor of Family and Consumer Sciences degree from California State University, Sacramento. She speaks English and Russian fluently.

Abraham Mendoza, Community Organizing Assistant/Social Work Intern

Abraham Mendoza works with resident members of Mutual Housing at Norwood I, II, & III in Sacramento. He supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. Under the supervision of community organizer Courtney Poole he supports several key initiatives including college ambassadors, Federal Work Study after-school tutoring, and youth healthy meals programming. Mr. Mendoza joined us in 2016 immediately after completing a year-long California Coalition for Rural Housing internship as part of the Mutual Housing California housing development department. He is currently completing a bachelors degree in social work from California State University, Sacramento. He speaks English and Spanish fluently.

Anastasiya Hernandez works with resident members of Mutual Housing at Foothill Farms in Sacramento. She supports resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. Under the supervision of community organizer Courtney Poole she supports several key initiatives including Housing California: Residents United Network leadership training, Federal Work Study after-school tutoring, and green leader teams. Ms. Hernandez completing a masters degree in social work from California State University, Sacramento. She speaks English and Russian fluently.

Jessica Cuevas, Community Organizing Assistant

Jessica Cuevas works with resident members three communities in Sacramento – Victory Townhomes Mutual Housing Community, Mutual Housing at Dixieanne, and Mutual Housing at River Garden. She works with community organizer Joua Yang to support resident member leadership development in order to build strong and stable communities. She also supports our Chromebook lending library expansion. Ms. Cuevas joined us in 2016 after completing a Summer internship supporting our Mutual Housing at Spring Lake community. During the internship Jessica developed a strong interest in safe, affordable housing and supporting residents through leadership development. Jessica will graduate from UC Davis in Spring 2017 with a Bachelor of Arts in Chicana/o Studies (social policy emphasis) and two minors, Community and Regional Development and Education. She speaks English and Spanish fluently.
