Financial Education & Asset Development
From 1999-2007, Mutual Housing helped hundreds of our residents and other low-income families to pursue their goals and dreams through our financial education and Individual Development Account (matched savings) programs for home purchase, small business development and higher education . Read about some of those successes here.
This past year we have been reviving these efforts, in a new format. We have once again begun offering financial education workshops to both adults and youth, thanks to the efforts of our Americorps*VISTA volunteers. Our volunteers have been building partnerships with local organizations and institutions that can assist residents to open bank accounts, save and invest toward future goals for themselves and their families, build and repair credit, and learn how to plan and obtain financing for home ownership, developing small businesses and pursuing higher education. We anticipate a surge in this activity in 2011, so stay tuned! If you feel you have skills, knowledge, resources and/or time to contribute to these efforts, please contact Amy Williamson at amy@mutualhousing.com or 916-453-8400 ext. 227.
