Before moving to Tremont Green, my life as a single mother was chaotic and uncertain. I was attending school full time and working part time. Raising my four sons was my biggest concern. It was all I could do to get by, living each day one at a time. I was in an abusive marriage and soon found myself going through a divorce. Not sure where life was taking me, I felt all alone. The apartment complex where we lived was not very safe, and my boys were not happy there; neither was I. There was no sense of community, and it seemed as if everyone was just looking out for themselves.

Since moving to Tremont Green, I must say that my life has changed in such a positive way that sometimes I can hardly believe it! It is a safe haven for me and my family, and I am just so thankful that I live here. Tremont Green is not just an apartment complex; it is a community. Many of us are like family here and we make sure that each member is taken care of.

I have become a very active member of my community by attending monthly meetings, passing out necessary paperwork to the tenants, and being a member of the participation committee. There are many activities here at Tremont Green. We have annual garage sales, book swaps with a crepe breakfast, barbecues, and holiday meals. It is really encouraging to be involved in a community such as this. Living here has not only given me a sense of accomplishment, but a sense of belonging as well.

Some time ago, a few of us from the community got together to get in shape. We started to run two miles each night. Eventually, I lost 60 pounds. I would not have been able to do this if it wasn’t for my family of friends here. I have gone on to encourage others to run.

My boys have also benefited from living here. It gives them a sense of pride in that the design and appearance of both the interior and exterior are so impressive, that they don’t seem any different from their friends. Residing in a high-quality townhouse has allowed us to take pride in where we live. Plus, living in affordable housing has enabled me to save money for the future, something that I was not able to do in the past. In addition, because I am no longer stressed about everyday living, I have been able to focus on my studies and receive an associate’s degree in gerontology, in hopes of becoming an advocate for the elderly. Tremont Green is my home, and I am truly thankful for being a part of this great community.
